Superior Ski Conditions All over Europe
Weve had almost 1.5 metres of snowfall during the last week. The snow was so heavy that lifts have been shut, the train has been stopping at the train station in Chamonix and not going up to Switzerland and delays with Geneva transfers. Some roads have been shut and snow warnings published.
This is in direct contrast to a few winter seasons past, when we experienced the unbelievably hot January weather, earth showing on the pistes, and admonitions that global warming meant the death of skiing in the European Alps. Indeed the study from winter 2006 warned that global warming could make snowboarding too pricey for the majority of skiers, with a 3rd of ski fields going bust and the disappearance of alpine glaciers. Glaciologists say that it’s unimaginable to attribute these annual deviations in the weather to the effects of climate change.
So we may have the worst recession in nearly 30 years, and the Pound Sterling has plummeted to more lows versus the Euro, but the conditions are great, and the recent bookings highlight that people are eager to revel in the grand snow. It is probably the greatest in nine seasons, and many people are saying it is the nicest skiing snow in at least ten years.
All the same recollect that this amount of snow means raised avalanches risks.
